Just a quick note to say that we are working on the layout and design of the site this week so things could be a little goofy or completely offline at times. The new layout will allow for the integration of the new features and functions that we have been working on in the background [...]
We were contacted today by an individual identifying themselves as a representative of “The Department of Labor”. They told us that government regulations require that we post “Employment and Safety Rules” posters at our inn. My “spidey senses” were tingling as it is not likely that a federal agency was proactively reaching out to a [...]
I thought that a good first tip to share in our new format was one that relates to the tip I shared at the recent PAII conference. So for our first project together, lets wirelessly spread music around our inn using your existing FM radios. This is a great way to create [...]
Well, I would like to start by introducing myself. My name is Tim Brady and for a little over a year now I have owned and operated the beautiful Forty Putney Road Bed and Breakfast in Brattleboro Vermont. Before innkeeping, I was an IT professional with various companies and agencies. I have [...]
We have been getting many emails recently. The most common question is “Who are you and what inn do you own”. It seems that there is speculation that this site was created as a marketing tool of one of the inn directories. It was not. There is no connection between this [...]
This site, although not particularly eye catching, seems to get decent traffic and create a modest return. A long established directory, Pam Lanier’s is one of the few remaining print directories promoting bed and breakfasts. Membership in the site includes the print listing. Also includes membership via the travelguides.com URL. Recently [...]
A-ZHotels.Net has emailed us possibly more than any other directory. Unfortunately prior to now, we havent been tracking the number of emails we have received from each advertiser, but we have started to do so in 2008. A-ZHotels.net emails are often borderline broken English and always include bizarre capitalized words and bold sentences. [...]
Guidebookamerica.com is another directory listing site that frequently emails innkeepers to solicit their advertising dollars. The site claims that they are “the only online travel directory of its kind”. If by that they mean confusing, cluttered and a spammy mess, well then they may be top of the class. Save your money. [...]
Another of the mass e mailers, I turn attention today to the site inspectedinns.org. Interestingly I have received many emails to subscribe to this site, but only a few were addressed to our inn. This definitely makes the offer seem spammy. They tout that the inns listed in the directory are inspected [...]
A frequent email solicitor, the site BestRomanticInns.com also advertises under GreatWeddingVenues.com as well as ConventionsMeetings.com. That certainly doesn’t start the review process off on the right foot. The emails are sent using a third party, emailbrain.com, and therefore are full of tracking links. This is a bad practice. Track visits at [...]
