Who are we

We have been getting many emails recently. The most common question is “Who are you and what inn do you own”. It seems that there is speculation that this site was created as a marketing tool of one of the inn directories. It was not. There is no connection between this site and any directory that we have reviewed. We have been in no way compensated, rewarded or even offered any “perk” for a review or based upon a review.

The reason that we have decided that we should remain anonymous is that we do not want our opinions, expressed here, to impact our primary business, our Inn. Our Inn is our livelyhood and based upon some of the heated emails that we have received regarding our reviews, it is clear that we made the right choice in remaining anonymous.

If you feel that the ratings are biased, or that they do not reflect your opinions, don’t read them.

To the directory site owners, this site was started as a resource for innkeepers - it is clear that many of these directory sites are not pleased with what we have had to say about them. I would hope that you would use these reviews as a tool to improve your sites and better serve the needs of the Innkeeping community. I am certain that your time would be better spent doing that than emailing us.

We are working right now on implementing a user review / rating system, which will allow our visitors to rate each directory on their own. These user ratings will be displayed along side of our own ratings.

Until this user rating system is complete, we have decided to pause posting new reviews.

  1. So what is the eta on the user ratings? I think user ratings would be a great kick in the pants for many of these sites who seem to be letting the web-using-travelers down by catering more to what they feel the innkeepers want rather than what the users are looking for. Seems like if you dont give the users what they want you are biting the hand that feeds you if you’re an inn.

  2. We are about two weeks away from the new site roll out with the ratings system from users. We are developing the app as a WordPress plug in so that it may be used by others to create rating sites etc… on any topic. That was actually the original purpose of this site, to demo that plugin for WordPress, we didn’t anticipate the innkeeper response that we received from these ratings at all! It’s exciting, but adds a layer of complexity to the rollout, considering we don’t want to test on this live site anymore!

Thanks for your comments and we look forward to your ratings when we get that system live!

  3. Thank you for starting an independent innkeeper-run site!!!! As a new innkeeper the number of directories is astonishing (and expensive!).

I represent the dinky B&B’s of the world… most of which are totally unrepresented on the biggest directories. It appears to me that many of the larger directories (one in particular comes to mind) do not consider us little guys’ business to be worth pursuing.

If directories are protesting your ratings, then good for you!! (And thank you for your service to our industry!)

  4. I appreciate your position. Keep in mind though lots of ‘people’ are going to rave about a directory…

Same problem TripAdvisor faces…where the worst place in town becomes the #1 pick for a hotel… if you know what I mean.

If I were you, I’d only accept reviews from Inns/B&Bs that you can verify.

e.g. if Dave from un-named in raves about directory X - don’t accept it.

If Mark from an Inn/B&B that you can verify as being a going concern raves about directory X (or puts it down) - then accept it.
